Dental implants

Dental implants are the strongest, most durable solution for missing teeth. Made of high-quality materials, implants are designed to last for many years, so long as you take care of them. In this blog post, the team at Town Center Dentistry shares a few tips on how to make your dental implants last for years to come.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

Dental implants should be cared for as natural teeth. This includes brushing them twice a day and flossing them daily. It is important to remove any food debris and bacteria that can become wedged between implants and surrounding teeth. If left there, food debris and bacteria can lead to a slew of dental issues, including tooth decay.

Avoid Hard Foods

Although dental implants are strong, they are still subject to cracks and fractures, just like natural teeth. For this reason, our dental implant specialist recommends patients avoid biting down on hard foods (e.g., apples) and objects (e.g., bottle caps and pens). Our specialist can give you more recommendations on what foods to avoid during your visit with us.

Don’t Smoke

Smoking is one of the major causes of dental implant failure, not to mention terrible for oral health in general. The nicotine in tobacco has been found to reduce blood flow which slows down the healing process after dental implant surgery. Smoking also increases the risk of bone and tissue loss, affecting the longevity of dental implants.

Schedule Regular Dental Visits

Regular dental visits (every six months) are essential in maintaining your dental implants. Our team can monitor the functionality of your implants, check for any dental issues and treat them early, if necessary.
